College of Charleston’s Bobby Cremins Signs Two-Year Extension

Charleston, S.C. – College of Charleston men’s basketball coach Bobby Cremins has signed a two-year contract extension. The extension runs through the 2013-14 campaign. Cremins, who enters his 29th season as a college head coach and his fourth at Charleston, has led the Cougars to a 65-37 overall record and a pair of Southern Conference championship game appearances.
The Charleston Wolverines traveling hockey team will host the 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at The Daniel Island Club on Tuesday August 25th at 11:00 A.M. This year, the course is Ralston Creek, where the Nationwide Tour Championship will be played October. Proceeds will benefit all of the Charleston Wolverines Teams. College of Charleston Plays Host to NCAA National Champion North Carolina

Charleston, S.C. -- The College of Charleston will take on defending national champion North Carolina at the Carolina First Arena on January 4. The arrival of Coach Roy Williams’ team marks the first time in school history that the current NCAA men’s basketball champions will play at the College of Charleston.
“I am thrilled to have the Tar Heels coming to play us in the Carolina First Arena," said Charleston coach Bobby Cremins, who led the Cougars to a 27-9 record last season. "Roy Williams is a long time friend and we look forward to playing the defending champs in front of our home crowd. ” Demand for tickets to this game is expected to be very strong. Season ticket holders and Cougar Club members will have first priority in purchasing tickets for North Carolina and other home contests. AMERICAN EAGLE AIRLINES TO LAUNCH NONSTOP JET SERVICE BETWEEN CHARLESTON, SC, AND MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

FORT WORTH, Texas – American Eagle Airlines, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will begin nonstop jet service between Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Miami International Airport (MIA), beginning November 19.

Bulldog Fan Club Breakfast
The next Citadel Bulldog Fan Club breakfast will be held on Friday, August 28, at 8 am at the Holliday Alumni Center. A buffet breakfast will be served at a cost of $10 per person, and please feel free to invite a guest or two who would not otherwise attend.
Speakers will be Kevin Higgins, Carolyn Geiger and Bob Winch, head coaches of football, volleyball and soccer teams, respectively.

Charleston ranks No. 4 in magazine survey

Charleston has been ranked as one of the nation’s top destinations in the continental United States and Canada in an annual Travel + Leisure magazine reader survey. The Holy City comes in at No. 4 for the second consecutive year, with New York, San Francisco and Quebec City coming before Charleston. www.travelandleisure.com
Giving to CSU Up Despite National Trends

Despite the tough financial times that are making headlines practically every day, the Charleston Southern athletics department has announced that donations were up 3.5 percent for the 2008-09 school year.
Cathryn Broderhausen, CSU's Associate A.D. for external affairs saw an increase in financial donations, as well as an increase in Buccaneer Club members for the past school year. According to and article by Giving USA, the nation on average saw a 5.7 percent decrease.
Broderhausen and her staff raised almost $440,000, which puts them well within striking distance of their 2012 goal of hitting the $500,000 mark.

The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island

Nationwide Tour’s season-ending event where the top 60 money winners compete for 25 PGA TOUR cards and a spot on the 2010 PGA Tour, announces open enrollment for volunteers at the October 19-25 event. Over 650 volunteers are needed to staff this world class event to be televised live on the Golf Channel. Volunteers ages 12 and up can serve in a wide range of areas, and there are many positions available for those who may not have golf knowledge, but want to participate. 29th US Mid-Amateur Championships to be hosted by Kiawah Island Club
The Kiawah Island Club is hosting the 29th US Mid-Amateur Championships, October 3-8, 2009 at Cassique and The River Course. This national championship is conducted by the United States Golf Association. The event will feature 264 players from around the country. Southern Conference Announces Staff Changes

SPARTANBURG S.C. – The Southern Conference announced the hiring of three new staff members and the promotion of two others. Jamie Severns, formerly the Streaming Video and Graphics Coordinator at The Citadel, joins the league office as the Director of Multimedia Services. Caroline Sanker, a decorated cross country and track runner from Davidson, is the league’s Championships/Operations Assistant for the 2009-10 season, and JoAnne Cannell, a 2008 graduate of the University of North Carolina, takes over the responsibilities as the Media Relations Assistant. Additionally, Jason Yaman has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations and Brandon Neff has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Championships.
