• 14th Season at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Prior to that, the franchise played its home games at College Park until the end of the 1996 season. Professional baseball has been a staple in Charleston every season since 1980 when the team was known as the Charleston Royals. The team became the Rainbows from 1985-1993 and has been known as the RiverDogs since the 1994 season. Professional baseball teams in Charleston date back to the 1886 Seagulls.

• Venue: “The Joe,” an affectionate nickname for the park, is located in downtown Charleston, off the banks of the Ashley River at 360 Fishburne St. Charleston, SC

• “The Joe” is not only home to the RiverDogs but also The Citadel, which has its own team clubhouse. The park has hosted the last 12 SoCon Baseball Tournaments and three South Atlantic League All-Star Games (1998, 2000, 2004)

What accomplished actor has ownership in the Charleston RiverDogs? Provided with his own corporate title, Mr. Bill Murray is the Director of Fun for the RiverDogs. Far from an absentee owner, Bill can be seen at “The Joe” on any given night, even throwing the ceremonial first pitch or coaching first base. Although Murray is a Golden Globe winner (Best Actor) and Academy Award nominee, he is most remembered for his role in a sport classic movie, “Caddy Shack.” And what was his character name while spending timeless hours dealing with a destructive dancing gopher?
