Organized in 1999, the Charleston Metro Sports Council (CMSC) works in partnership with the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) to serve the local and national sports industry as the central economic development agency for the region. It serves the local community as the lead promoter for the Charleston sports market.

CMSC Mission Statement: “To promote the Charleston region as a premier sports travel destination.”
CMSC Vision: “To promote awareness, interest and appreciation of local sports in the Charleston region, encouraging youth and adults to become involved in the local sports scene, as participants, spectators, volunteers, event sponsors and partners.”
CMSC Advisory Board: “Serves as a liason for the Greater Charleston sports community. Their collective role is to promote local sports development for the social and economic value to the area.”
• Sports Celebration Night including Sports Business and Athletic Achievement Awards. Held at Charleston Area Convention Center with 400 in attendance. (January) Some 30 individuals and organizations are recognized. All building a Lowcountry Legacy for sports!
• Sports Night Out with the CMSC at various sports venues. Includes professional and collegiate competitions along with receptions and networking opportunities throughout the sports year. Hosted by the Charleston Metro Sports Council for its sponsors and marketing partners.
• Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are hosted by the Charleston Metro Sports Council. March Madness begins at the North Charleston Coliseum and “Before You go to the Big Dance, You Gotta Do the Charleston!” (March 2008)
• Sports Event Organizer Meets Media Luncheon. Held at Bobby Hartin’s Sports Grill and local sports representatives share insight and contacts for working with the media. Local media representatives compete for the coveted Metro Sports Trivia Award each year.
