29th Annual Lowcountry Soccer Festival
The most exciting adult soccer tournament in the South will be held for its 29th consecutive Memorial Day Weekend. Teams travel from SC, NC, GA, VA, TN, FL, MD, In addition to young competitive levels, a number of divisions are held including >30, > 40, > 50, and >55 division.
Event Organizer: City of Charleston Recreation Department, Tournament Director, Mr. Dave Caruso.
Venue/Location: A variety of soccer complexes are utilized; West Ashley Park, Ackerman Park, Bayview Soccer Complex, & Ansonborough Field.
Participants: Between 80-100 teams (25 members each) participate for a total of 2,000 - 2,500 players, coaches, etc. Teams travel from primarily southeast states (8-9) including FL, GA, SC, NC, VA, MD, TN, AL, DC, WV. In the past, teams from Canada, Ohio, Kentucky, Mass, and Conn have traveled for the Memorial Weekend event. Organizers have created a great tradition in which some 75% of teams have played for 10 consectutive years, and even a few for 20 plus years.
Famous players who have participated include; USA Women's National Team star, Michele Ackers (who met her husband here ~ Robby Stahl (former coach of CofC) / USA Men's national team star, Desmond Howard / 4-time World Cup participant from Columbia, Carlos Valdarama.
